The irrefutable success of Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay

Quality, concentration and excellent balance are only a few words to describe the Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2012 which has picked up another accolade to add to its growing history book of awards. This incredible wine picked up the Hawkes Bay Chardonnay Trophy at the 2015 International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London, “one of the most respected blind wine-tasting competitions in the world”. Charles Metcalfe, IWC Co-Chairman

The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is now in its 32nd year and is widely accepted as the world's finest and most meticulously judged wine competition which assesses every wine blind and judges each for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. Throughout the rigorous judging processes, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions by at least 10 different judges.

This isn’t the first time the Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2012 has hit the headlines with other awards including:

• Champion Wine of Show and Bragato Trophy Winner Bragato Wine Awards 2014

• White exhibition class Trophy Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2014

• Trophy for New Zealand’s top White Wine Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2014

Chardonnay is a large focus for the Vidal Estate viticulture and winemaking teams. This accolade further cements the already strong relationship between quality and Chardonnay at the Estate. “Once again Hawkes Bay has been recognised for the production of high quality Chardonnay. There is no question of the appropriateness of our soils and climate for this variety. It’s these natural elements that combine with local knowhow in the vineyard and winery, along with a good dose of passion, which has made Chardonnay a leading light in Hawkes Bay. In an international context it is quickly being understood that these wines are undervalued. This will change.” Hugh Crichton – Vidal Estate Winemaker
