Puhoi – Warkworth PPP – welcome news for Northland economy

Puhoi – Warkworth PPP – welcome news for Northland economy

Progressing the construction of the new SH1 Puhoi-Warkworth corridor as a private-public partnership (PPP) is a welcome step forward, said Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce head, Michael Barnett.

“Northland has significant resources of land and people and is a promising region for economic growth. The Puhoi – Warkworth road project represents a step forward in securing an efficient economic lifeline for Northland’s vital links with the Auckland market and economy.”

Mr Barnett encouraged that the next stage Warkworth to Wellsford and further upgrades of SH1 further north towards Whangarei proceed quickly. “The end result should be a more efficient and safe link between Auckland and Northland that will benefit both regions.”

Doing this stage of the project as a PPP using debt funding means that more capital would be available in the National Land Transport Fund to resource other transport improvements elsewhere.
