Efficiency starts at the farm gate

Efficiency starts at the farm gate

Turbulence in commodity prices will sharpen focus at this year’s National Fieldays on technology and practices that improve on-farm efficiency, according to New Zealand’s largest agricultural lender, ANZ New Zealand.

“Softening dairy prices are a reminder for farmers that commodity markets are cyclical and fortunes can change very quickly,” says Graham Turley, ANZ’s Managing Director Commercial & Agri.

“Reducing costs and investing in efficiency is the best insurance farmers can have against low points in price cycles and give them more certainty to reinvest in productivity and profit.”

The ANZ Privately Owned Business Barometer – results of which will be released at Fieldays - shows smaller and family-owned farms moving towards the sort of formalised business management and decision making process normally used by larger corporate operations.

“These corporate processes are often very different to what many farmers are used to. However, most see this as a positive change as they impose disciplines on the business that are both necessary and beneficial,” Mr Turley says.

“How to apply these disciplines to their circumstances, and how to utilise new technology to drive further efficiency, will be top of mind for many farmers at Fieldays.”

ANZ will again be getting behind National Fieldays as a strategic partner. ANZ is not only New Zealand’s largest on-farm lender, but it is also the largest bank to agri supplier industries, processors and exporters.

ANZ’s strategic partnership with Fieldays – which opens at Mystery Creek tomorrow - reflects its broad and long-term commitment to New Zealand agriculture.

“We’ve been sponsoring Fieldays for over 40 years, during which time millions have attended what has become a landmark event for agriculture in this country, and internationally,” Mr Turley says.

ANZ is again heavily involved in Fieldays activities:

ANZ’s Agri Economist Con Williams will share his assessment of markets and prices for the upcoming year. And we’re delighted to have ANZ Ambassador Steve Hansen on hand to share his thoughts on the season ahead.

Dairy Insights from the eighth ANZ Privately-Owned Business Barometer - the most comprehensive business survey in New Zealand - will be released at Fieldays.

As always visitors can come in from the cold for a cuppa and a scone with jam and cream at the ANZ Building on the Village Green. Our banking specialists will be on hand to discuss ANZ’s Farm Start-up Package, our Pasture and Performance Loan, general and rural banking needs, UDC asset finance, investments, KiwiSaver, Insurance and more.

Four ANZ ATM Carts will be roving the Fieldays site enabling people to withdraw cash. The ANZ ATM container units will be located around the site for quick withdrawals, deposits and other banking needs, people can visit the ANZ Mystery Creek Branch which is located next to the Village Green.
