Institute of Directors announces new President and Vice President

The Institute of Directors in New Zealand (IoD) has appointed Michael Stiassny as its new President and Liz Coutts as its first female Vice President, at its Annual General Meeting in Dunedin yesterday.

Mr Stiassny, who was Vice President, replaces outgoing President Stuart McLauchlan.

Mr McLauchlan says Mr Stiassny and Ms Coutts bring exceptional governance experience and skill to the IoD Council.

“Both have served on and added value as directors on some of the country’s biggest boards,” he says.

“I am excited about where the IoD is headed. Last year was an exciting year with the introduction of the Chartered Membership pathway, a strong move to raise the professionalism of directors and demonstrate to the market what sets IoD members apart.

“Both Michael and Liz will continue to strengthen this strategic priority and meet the needs and expectations of our members.”

Mr Stiassny, a Chartered Fellow, has been an IoD Council member since June 2009, and was appointed Vice President in April 2013. He has a distinguished governance record in both private and public companies and is a leading proponent for improving diversity on New Zealand boards. He is currently chairman of Vector Ltd, TOWER Ltd and Ngati Whatua Orakei Whai Rawa Ltd; and Director of NZ Windfarms Ltd and DNZ Property Trust Ltd.

Ms Coutts, also a Chartered Fellow of the IoD, was appointed as a councillor in April 2013, and is currently a director of EBOS Group Limited, Skellerup Holdings Limited, Ports of Auckland and Sanford Limited, and is chairman of Urwin and Co Limited, Oceania Heathcare Limited and the IRD Risk and Assurance Committee.
