Adventure conference focuses on being the best

Delegates at The Great Adventure 2015 will find out “what’s next” when it comes to strengthening safety across the adventure and outdoor tourism sector, and how adventure is being used to market Destination New Zealand internationally.

Organised by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) and now in its third year, the Great Adventure one day conference is taking place in Wellington on 3 July with the theme Grow - Lead - Succeed. It will bring together private and public sector leaders in the adventure and outdoor tourism sector, keen to get updates on the issues and opportunities facing this valuable part of New Zealand’s $24 billion tourism industry.

“After several years of considerable regulatory change, this year’s event is an opportunity to look to the future and focus on how we can build an adventure tourism sector that is world leading on every level, from safety to profitability to delivering an outstanding visitor experience,” says TIA Chief Executive Chris Roberts.

A comprehensive programme includes updates from all the key government players in this sector, including WorkSafe New Zealand, Maritime New Zealand and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.

The Department of Conservation, which manages the public estate where many adventure and outdoor tourism operators conduct their business, will discuss the tourism-conservation partnership, while Tourism New Zealand will highlight the importance of adventure and outdoor activity to today’s traveller and how different visitor markets perceive this sector.

“There will also be plenty of time throughout the day for delegates to network with their peers around the country, something we know operators in this sector value highly,” says Mr Roberts.

“We are very grateful for the support from a number of sponsors, including DOC, our Premier Event Partner.”
