Local artists offered opportunity at Fresh new business

Local artists offered opportunity at Fresh new business

Northland artists are being given the opportunity to showcase their work at a new fresh food business. Based in Kaitaia, Click Fresh opens in August 2015, and the owners are calling for submissions from talented local artists, to paint a mural on one of the exterior walls.

Click Fresh will bring fresh, healthy food to Kaitaia, offering locally-grown produce and healthy meals and drinks, along with meal ideas, weekly specials and delicious coffee. Passionate about supporting and encouraging thriving local communities, owners Logan Wedgwood and Alan Grainger are looking to decorate using the skills of a talented local painter.

“Perhaps due to the inspiration offered by its beautiful scenery, Northland has a thriving local arts scene,” says co-owner Logan. “We’d love for a local artist to display their work on our premises. They’ll get their name out there, and a mural will give life to our outdoor space with something more interesting than a standard paint job.”

Click Fresh will provide all materials necessary to complete the work, which will include the artist’s signature. The winning artist will also receive a free hot drink from Click Fresh every week for a year, and have the opportunity to display further work in Click Fresh’s gallery space which leads into their café.

“We want to make the most of what local communities have to offer,” says co-owner Alan. “We’ll be sourcing much of our produce from Northland, not miles away, so it makes sense that we do the same for our building. Why use external contractors who don’t know the area and the people, when there’s a wealth of artistic talent right here in Northland?”

A mural will give one talented local the chance to display their work in an area that will receive substantial foot traffic, increasing awareness of their name and showcasing their skills.

The premises was once a surf store, and the exterior wall, measuring 2.5 by 9 metres, has a 3 dimensional wave emerging from it. Click Fresh holds its official opening, which is open to all, on August 1st, and the team would like an artist to begin painting on August 2nd. The perfect mural will include themes familiar to locals; water, Northland, Maori culture and prosperity from land and sea.

If you are interested in making a submission, please email an example of your work and why you would like to do this project to marieke@clickfresh.nz, or contact Marieke on (09) 629 4213. Submissions must be in by Friday July 24th.
