Clemenger Group’s Green Credentials Go Gold

New Zealand’s leading communications company, Clemenger Group, announced today it has jumped from Bronze straight to Gold certification by Enviro-Mark for their sustainability programmes across their three major offices.

This is a major accomplishment resulting from initiatives put in place over the last three years to lower the Group’s environmental impact.

The 100 College Hill site, that houses Colenso BBDO, Porter Novelli and Proximity, now recycle an average of 77 per cent of rubbish generated in the building - the best result of all 34 companies managed by Rubbish Direct in Auckland. The building recently installed 232 solar panels on the roof and has offset more than 30 tonnes of carbon emissions to date by doing so.

The Richmond Rd office, home to justONE and .99, has also reduced its rubbish from 576kg to 500kg a month by eliminating paper hand towels and replacing them with hand dryers, along with replacing light bulbs with energy efficient LED lights.

The Clemenger BBDO, OMD, Proximity and Touchcast Wellington office have reduced their power consumption by 30 per cent, offsetting more than five tonnes of carbon a month, which is in excess of 62 tonnes of carbon footprints saved during a year.

Other Group initiatives put in place across all three sites include guideline posters for recycling bins to clearly state what should be disposed of and where it should be placed. Clemenger Group Chief Executive Jim Moser says this success has been a team effort.

“Achieving gold certification was a journey not to be underestimated. We had to establish clear environmental objectives, targets and programmes, test and monitor significant impacts, develop an action plan, document procedures to manage potential impacts and communicate our achievements.

“To go from Bronze certification straight to Gold in three years is an incredible achievement. We are leading the advertising industry in sustainable practice and want continue our efforts and strive to be recognised as Diamond certified in the near future.

“Sustainable environmental leadership in our sector is simply best business practice. Many of our clients are held to very strict environmental standards so it’s important that we keep pace with them,” says Moser.

The Clemenger Group is now focusing on Platinum and Diamond accreditation, continuing with efforts to reduce power consumption, the amount of waste produced and finding new ways to lower the business’ impact on the environment.
