Big Data Innovator a Finalist in EY Entrepreneur of the Year

Big Data Innovator Features as Finalist in EY Entrepreneur of the Year

AUCKLAND NZ, 23 JULY 2015: Carmen Vicelich, founder and CEO of Kiwi analytics firm Data Insight, has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 New Zealand EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. It's a fitting acknowledgement of her leading role in a fast-growing Kiwi-owned company which is turning Big Data into actionable insights for many New Zealand organisations.

Vicelich has enjoyed a long and passionate love affair with data, as a self-confessed technology geek. That passion led her in April 2013 to launch the NZ-owned analytics company Data Insight. The company specialises in helping New Zealand organisations to extract meaningful, actionable insights from the constantly-expanding torrent of what’s become known as Big Data.

Under Vicelich’s leadership, Data Insight has quickly become both innovator and disruptor. The company’s success is built upon unique products such as Valocity. Valocity is a property information, market insight and valuation service using cloud-based technology to analyse data never before available in New Zealand. Data Insight also works with Kiwi organisations across many different industries, applying intelligent data analysis to identify insights with game changing potential.

Vicelich attributes her nomination as EY Entrepreneur of the Year finalist to two key factors:

• The ever-increasing importance of data analysis

• Her abiding passion to turn data into meaningful insights.

“Data has never been more important,” Vicelich says, “every day there’s more than ever. During the past two years alone, more data has been created than in the entire history of humankind. But unless you can turn that data into information that you can use, you might as well not have any.”

Recognition of that reality, combined with a burning passion for data extraction, analysis and creation of actionable insights, led Vicelich to create the company – and to head a team which has doubled every six months since launch. Vicelich believes that when you embark on your passion, few people can compete or run faster.

That belief has been reinforced by her selection as a finalist for the 2015 New Zealand EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
