Airport Safety Week 2015

Airport Safety Week 2015

Large and small airports across Australia and New Zealand will be participating in a unique industry initiative to promote safety at airports during Airport Safety Week in October 2015.

While safety for airport workers, passengers and visitors is a daily priority for airport operators, Airport Safety Week is a valuable opportunity to engage with employees and contractors on key safety issues through a structured program of events and tailored communications activities.

74 airports and five corporate partners in Australia and New Zealand participated in the inaugural Airport Safety Week in September 2014 which was supported by the Australian Airports Association (AAA) and the New Zealand Airports Association (NZ Airports).

Airport Safety Week will run from 26-30 October with a range of activities to promote safety awareness at airports. Themes to be covered this year include airside safety; fatigue; runway safety; drug and alcohol management; and, noise.

‘Airport Safety Week is an opportunity to engage all airport staff and contractors on safety, whether they are working on the airfield, in the terminal building, or landside,’ said AAA CEO, Caroline Wilkie.

‘The campaign is supported by a dedicated website which provides participants with a number of tools and resources to stimulate and focus discussion on key safety issues.

‘Airport Safety Week encourages people who work in airport environments to think about their personal safety, as well as of those working around them, and passengers and visitors to the airport environment,’ Ms. Wilkie said.

‘The Airport Safety Awards will again be a valuable part of Airport Safety Week this year, with awards for both regional and major airports,’ said NZ Airports CEO, Kevin Ward.

‘The Airport Safety Awards will recognise employees, teams, projects and organisations at airports across Australia and New Zealand that endeavor to support a positive safety environment.

‘This year the awards will have a major focus on innovation in airport safety and highlight some of the outstanding work airports are undertaking to maintain a safe and sustainable aviation industry for Australasia,’ Mr. Ward said.
