Country’s top global minds set for NZME business breakfast

Country’s top global minds set for NZME business breakfast

PwC Herald Talks – Going Global

7 August 2015 – Following the resounding success of July’s inaugural PwC Herald Talks, New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) has announce their second event will focus on Going Global . The PwC Herald Talks are an exciting new four-part breakfast series designed to give New Zealand’s business leaders the knowledge, insight and strategies to grow and diversify in the ever-changing landscape facing them.

The PwC Herald Talks on Going Global will be held on August 26 at the SKYCITY Theatre. Keynote speaker Fady Mishriki, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of PowerbyProxi, knows more about technology advances than most. Mishriki will share his experiences on becoming a ground breaking technology company that has commanded attention from some of the world’s consumer electronics giants.
“Communication within global markets is now essential and new technologies are making this an industry standard,” he says.
Mishriki is one of the world’s leading specialists in the deployment of wireless power systems working in the most difficult and demanding environments. With a focus on today’s rapid advancements in technology, more businesses are finding it easier to go global. Businesses that are thriving are those that are adapting and responding to these opportunities quickly and efficiently.
With offices in New Zealand and the United States, plus rapidly increasing activity in Asia, PowerbyProxi is going through a period of explosive growth. But, despite its global ambitions Mishriki highlights; “Business leaders who are leveraging the correct tools and assets to fully embrace global opportunities are also finding greater success in conquering domestic markets.”
Fran O'Sullivan, NZME’s Editorial Director Business, is confident the topic Going Global will be of interest to all New Zealand business owners.
“It’s a great opportunity for Kiwi business owners and management teams to learn about exporting and global growth from those involved at a grassroots level. The panel discussions that will follow the keynote speaker will address strategic insights and practical solutions that can be implemented to improve business performance no matter what size of business you have. That’s what makes these talks so appealing.”

A panel discussion on Going Global will round-off the event featuring Tim Green General Manager, International New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Phil Veal CEO Rangatira Fund and Global Chair of KEA New Zealand and Erica Crawford, CEO Loveblock Wines and co-founder of Kim Crawford Wines. NZME’s Fran O’Sullivan is the adjudicator.
Crawford is a business pioneer having created a new business model—a virtual wine company that is now common place. Crawford grew Kim Crawford Wines from a small family-owned business to a significant international player that is sold in more than 30 countries. Today, it is New Zealand's biggest wine brand in the USA and Canada and tops the general sauvignon blanc category in both of these important export markets.
Crawford’s new brand Loveblock, has made significant in-roads in the United States market within just two years of its launch. It is through first-hand experience that Crawford can share her golden rule of going global.
"Because of our small domestic market, a number of New Zealand (SME) companies export almost immediately but often don't have time to iron out potential difficulties. The most important learning is what is important in New Zealand, is often irrelevant in export markets. It is key to get to know the market and its people first."

Veal is an outspoken advocate for the ‘borderless nation’ of New Zealand and New Zealanders, and believes in the power of global networks to help shape New Zealand for the greater economic good. Veal is an investor and business leader with over 20 years’ United States and international business experience. Veal will provide insights of how going global is not solely limited to big businesses but can be highly achievable for small and medium New Zealand businesses.
NZME Chief Executive, Jane Hastings says the company is thrilled with the success of the first business forum.

“Any opportunity to allow key business professionals to engage, share ideas and inspire innovation for New Zealand business is a great thing. NZME’s proactive approach to provide a forum for key business leaders to discuss current trends in innovation, growth and changing markets around the globe has proven to be the right one. Our goal was for everyone to walk away armed with new knowledge and inspired to do business better, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback confirms we achieved exactly that.”

The PwC Herald Talks series are brought to you by the New Zealand Herald, PwC, Newstalk ZB and event partners SKYCITY and Kea.

Tickets for the Going Global breakfast on Wednesday, August 26 are $89 per person at https://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2015/aug/pwc-herald-talks-going-global
