Fashion and Food Collide with Kenwood’s ‘Sweet Couture’

Fashion and Food Collide with Kenwood’s ‘Sweet Couture’ Installation

Kenwood has collaborated with three of New Zealand’s top fashion designers, Trelise Cooper, Andrea Moore and twenty-seven names to bring edible couture to life – the delectable results are on display in the Smith & Caughey’s Queen Street window.

The grand designs are real-life representations of the designers’ unique visions of Sweet Couture and have been crafted using icing and fondant all mixed together with the award winning Kenwood CHEF Sense.

Each of the three designers was given two weeks to design and develop their ultimate ‘Sweet Couture’ creation for the installation and once finished on paper, worked closely with Kenwood and Sweet Bites Cakes to bring their ideas to life.

Trelise Cooper’s lacy creation ‘Let them Eat Cake,’ transports shoppers to the Palace of Versailles and is in-line with the spring collection, which delights the senses with a feast of buttercream, pink champagne and lace as fine as spun sugar.

twenty-seven names’ 'riot dress' comes from Russia, with love. Taking inspiration from the riotous debut of Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet, the floor length gown is adorned with a folk art-inspired floral motif drawn by designer Rachel Easting, and re-created in decadent icing.

Andrea Moore’s ‘The Fortune Dress’ is a reincarnation of the dress by the same name from her SS15 collection.

The edible designs will be on display from 14 – 28 September.

Davina Gray-Ebbett, DeLonghi Group NZ Marketing Manager, says that the Sweet Couture collaboration is a one-of-a-kind activity that showcases the best in food technology, fashion and innovation.

“The Kenwood CHEF Sense is a unique and innovative product. The opportunity to work with some of our leading designers and showcase our product in Smith & Caughey’s prime location window was one not to pass up.

In undertaking the activity, we wanted to create something that would really show off this uniqueness by combining both food and fashion into ‘Sweet Couture’. The designers and Sweet Bites Cakes have done a fantastic job of bringing this to life for Aucklanders to enjoy.”

During the window’s live dates customers and passers-by can vote for their favourite design at the Smith & Caughey’s Kenwood showroom, located on the second floor. All voters will go in the draw to win a Kenwood CHEF Sense, valued at $800 and a $500 Smith & Caughey’s gift card - entries close on 27th September.
