Aurecon’s Anthony Barry named board director of FIDIC

Aurecon’s Managing Director for Asia, Anthony Barry, has been appointed to the board of engineering body FIDIC.

FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, represents the interests of consulting engineers worldwide, and Anthony becomes the fourth Australian elected to the board in its history.

He brings to FIDIC an incredible enthusiasm for engineering and a distinguished project list from a career that spans over 30 years. Megan Motto, CEO of Consult Australia, the industry body for consulting engineers in Australia and also a country member of FIDIC, said, “The appointment of Tony to the board of FIDIC is a very proud moment for Australia in the global consulting community. Tony has been closely involved with Consult Australia for many years and his vision and skill in managing change, combined with his relentless energy make him a great addition to the FIDIC leadership. He follows in the footsteps of two other notable Australian consulting engineers and we wish him well with his latest challenge.”

Tony said he was keen to get started in his new role with FIDIC.

“I am grateful to have this opportunity and eager to start contributing,” he said. “Our industry is facing some significant changes and at FIDIC we must be alive to those changes. We need to stay relevant in a way which balances the interests of our member country associations in both the developing and developed world. With my experience across a broad range of economies in Asia and Australia I feel I can bring some new perspective to the board.”

About Anthony Barry

Anthony Barry has been with Aurecon since 1985 and has spent his entire career in the professional engineering industry. He started out in 1976 in Australia working at the Department of Main Roads in New South Wales. He holds numerous professional accreditations and was previously National President of Consult Australia and also a former winner of the Professional Engineer of the Year award from the Sydney Division of Engineers Australia.

FIDIC has been in operation for over 100 years and comprises over 100 member countries, representing 60 thousand engineering and consulting firms. FIDIC offers education, training and best practice guidance to consulting engineers in all aspects of their jobs including: sustainability and risk, procurement and contracts, integrity management and capacity building.
