International Volunteer HQ Earns B Corp Certification

World-leader in volunteer travel commits to transparency, and rigorous standards of social and environmental performance.

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ), the award winning provider of volunteering programs in 30 countries, today announced it has earned certification as B Corporation.

Certified B Corporations are celebrated for using business as a tool to help solve global social and environmental problems. Similar to a Fair Trade label, the B Corp certification is about identifying and recognising ethical organizations that have a positive social purpose and use business as a force for good.

The New Zealand-based business now joins a movement of more than 1,400 other B Corporations globally such as Kickstarter, Patagonia, Etsy and Ben & Jerry’s – by voluntarily meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance.  IVHQ is the first volunteer travel provider to gain the certification and the 4th New Zealand business to make the grade.

“Understanding our success in terms of our wider social and environmental impact has always been a focus for us, so we’re proud to be recognised as a B Corp and we hope more Kiwi companies follow suit,” Said IVHQ Executive Director Dan Radcliffe.

“Far too many businesses in this country still only think about their success in terms of financial performance, and that’s no longer good enough. The companies who truly understand this will not only make the biggest positive impact in the world, but they’ll also become more attractive to customers and the very best talent.

“Global challenges demand a bold response from the business community and Kiwi companies have an opportunity to play a leading role by acting as a force for good. That’s what becoming a B Corp is all about.”

In order to become a Certified B Corporation, IVHQ has been assessed against a range of criteria including its community contribution, approach to environmental sustainability, workplace conditions and employee benefits.
