October 2015 Monthly traffic update

7.6%Auckland Airport’s international passengers (excluding transit passengers) were up 7.6% in October 2015 compared with October 2014. Growth was achieved across all regions and was led by Asian routes, which were up 17.8% due to new capacity from China Eastern’s Shanghai service and additional Air New Zealand capacity on the Tokyo and Singapore routes.

16.1 millionAuckland Airport’s total passenger movements exceeded 16 million passengers in the 12 months to October 2015, up 873,000 passengers on the previous 12 month period. Both international and domestic performed well (up 7.1% and 4.4% respectively), and transit passengers also increased, up 3.1% to more than 500,000 passengers. The growth in transit passengers is due to airlines adding new routes, and new flight times that optimise transfers for connecting Trans-Pacific passengers.
18.3%Queenstown Airport’s total passenger numbers increased 18.3% in October 2014. School holidays, Golden Week, Labour Weekend and the Jazz Festival all helped to boost domestic and international travel activity. International passengers were up 34.4%, while a 13.7% increase in domestic passengers reflected additional capacity and passenger volumes, especially on the Auckland-Queenstown route which saw both Air New Zealand and Jetstar add 30% more seats this October.
17.9%Visitor arrivals from Korea were up 17.9% in October 2015 driven by a 5.7% higher load factor on Korean Air. The airline will increase capacity on its Seoul-Auckland service this summer, increasing the size of its aircraft from a B777-200 to a B777-300ER on its 5-weekly service from late October, and then a daily B747-400 service between December and late-March. Korean Air will also fly its new B747-800 Intercontinental aircraft to Auckland in January and February.
