Nod for new NZ-India air services deal welcomed

The Indian Government has approved the signing of a revised Air Services Agreement between India and New Zealand, according to a Government media release last week.

India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the signing on November 18 in the Indian capital New Delhi.

India Trade Alliance, the New Zealand and India based organisation that facilitates business, trade and investment between the two nations, has hailed the new development as one that will have a positive impact on relations between the two countries.

“It is a new milestone in the civil aviation relations between New Zealand and India that will undoubtedly lead to increased trade and investment, not to mention tourism and cultural exchanges,” said India Trade Alliance Chairman Giriraj Gupta in Auckland.

The Air Services Agreement enhances air transport services on mutually agreed terms including flying rights, operation to select airports and weekly passenger seat allocation for the two country’s airlines.

India’s flag carrier Air India has an existing code share pact with Air New Zealand for providing seamless connectivity to its passengers bound for New Zealand and vice versa.

Code sharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence.
