Institute of Public Administration New Zealand

MEDIA RELEASE

26 January 2016

Nominations for Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards 2016 close on 1 March

Nominations for New Zealand’s longest-running and most prestigious public sector awards close on 1 March 2016. The awards have been running since 2008.

The Institute of Public Administration New Zealand (IPANZ) is calling on all public sector organisations, big and small, to put forward successful projects for consideration for the Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards 2016.

The awards are open to central and local government, district councils, DHBs and tertiary institutions. They recognise outstanding achievements and innovations by organisations and teams across the public sector.

There are nine award categories:

• Building Trust and Confidence in Government

• Crown – Maori Relationships

• Improving Public Value through Business Transformation

• Digital Government

• Achieving Collective Impact

• Improving Performance through Leadership Excellence

• Public Sector Engagement

• Excellence in Regulatory Systems

• Young Professional of the Year

An overall Prime Minister’s Award for Public Sector Excellence is also awarded to one of the category winners (excluding the Young Professional award).

The 2015 winner of this award was ‘the Canterbury District Health Board for ‘The Canterbury Clinical Network’. Its alliance framework established ways to provide health care in the community, closer to people's homes. In 2014, 30,000 people who would previously have been admitted to hospital with acute conditions were treated and cared for at home.

“The Network was a great example of collaboration and integration of services,” says Institute of Public Administration NZ (IPANZ) President John Larkindale.

“It has transformed the way health services operate in Canterbury with astonishing results.”

“This year we are looking forward to seeing nominations from agencies of all sizes for projects or initiatives that promote excellence in terms of vision, innovation and the achievement of results,” Mr Larkindale says.

“We are especially keen to receive nominations for initiatives delivering services directly to their communities.”

Deloitte partner and public sector lead Dave Farrelly says Deloitte is looking forward to its first year as lead sponsor of the awards.

“We are committed to supporting excellence in public policy, administration and management in the sector. Public sector agencies make a huge impact on the lives of all New Zealanders, and publically recognising successful initiatives is vitally important,” he says.

“We look forward to celebrating with the nominees, finalists, and ultimate winners, next July.”

The Awards Ceremony will be held on 6 July 2016 at the TSB Arena, Wellington.
