Pub Charity Grants $50,000 towards Hundertwasser Seed

Pub Charity Grants $50,000 towards Hundertwasser Seed

In their January funding round Pub Charity Limited has granted $50,000 towards the first stage of the Hundertwasser project. This is a welcome boost to efforts to get this first structure underway, and comes on top of a generous $100,000 donation from the Tiger Trust.

Te Kakano (the seed), is part of the Hundertwasser Art Centre proposal that Whangarei ratepayers voted for in a referendum last June. It is a stand-alone ceramic and brick architectural sculpture incorporating seating and a small covered area with a planted roof. The design is based on the koru, a symbol embraced by Hundertwasser.

The main building is subject to fundraising over the next year and a half. However, funding for Te Kakano is almost in place, in part thanks to these grants, and the building consent (the final administrative step) is expected to be finalised in February.

Te Kakano will be a unique attraction in itself and supporters are keen to see work start on it as soon as possible. That could be as soon as March, if people get behind it.
