Veuve Clicquot Rio Carnaval fashion ready to land

Veuve Clicquot Rio Carnaval fashion ready to land at The Land Rover NZ Polo Open

The Veuve Clicquot marquee at The Land Rover NZ Polo Open is synonymous with fabulous fashion and unique design. To celebrate the fifth year of their NZ Polo sponsorship, Veuve Clicquot has partnered with three iconic New Zealand designers who will each create a bespoke piece of polo fashion that has been inspired by this year’s vibrant and unique Veuve Clicquot marquee theme, Rio Carnaval. Kathryn Wilson, Deadly Ponies and Huffer have all lent their expertise to this exciting Veuve Clicquot collaboration.

Rio Carnaval is a timely theme with an exciting year ahead for a number of New Zealand’s athletes at the Rio Olympics, and each bespoke design will be gifted to an athlete that is working towards representing the country at the Olympics later this year. Hockey star Anita Punt will receive a pair of Kathryn Wilson heels, Olympic gold medallist Lisa Carrington a Deadly Ponies bag, and triathlete Tony Dodds will receive a shirt from Huffer. As guests of Veuve Clicquot, these star athletes will debut their bespoke pieces on the ‘yellow’ carpet come February 21st.

“Every year the Veuve Clicquot Polo marquee embraces a theme and this year it is all about the vibrancy and energy of Rio Carnaval, which is quite fitting given the 2016 Olympics will be set in Brazil,” says Rai Banbury, Senior Brand Manager. “Polo and fashion go hand in hand, so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with three amazing kiwi designers to further bring to life Rio Carnaval in a way that celebrates the world of Veuve Clicquot and pays tribute to our country’s finest athletes.”

Veuve Clicquot Brand Ambassador Kathryn Wilson is excited about the designer collaboration and to once again represent the iconic champagne brand at The Land Rover NZ Polo Open. “It is always an honour to work alongside Veuve Clicquot. This year’s ‘Rio Carnaval’ theme is a lot of fun and it’s apt ahead of the pending Olympics. Designing a pair of heels for one of the country’s sporting heroes is an absolute privilege, as is continuing my role as ambassador for one of the world’s finest luxury brands,” says Wilson.

Liam Bowden, Designer and Founder of Deadly Ponies, welcomed the opportunity to work with Veuve Clicquot for the first time and to design a bespoke bag for Lisa Carrington. “Lisa is someone who personifies style, drive and success, making her a great fit for our brand. We had a lot of fun designing something for her that would be appropriate to her active lifestyle but still incorporated Rio-inspired chic.”

Steve Dunstan, Director of Huffer, adds “It is an honour be a part of this unique Veuve Clicquot collaboration and to have the chance to showcase our designs at such a prestigious sporting event”.

The Veuve Clicquot marquee will be the place to be at The Land Rover NZ Polo Open. Guests can expect colour, music and unique entertainment while watching all of the action happening on field. Delicious Rio-inspired dishes have also been created for guests to enjoy alongside flutes of Veuve Clicquot including baby brazil nut cakes drizzled with chocolate whisky sauce and mouth-watering raisin & pine nut frittelles – more commonly known as carnival donuts!

The Land Rover NZ Polo Open is on Sunday 21st February. If you want to be a part of the fun, head to Kathryn Wilson’s Instagram page @kwfootwear for your chance to win two tickets to the exclusive Veuve Clicquot Marquee and a meet and greet with New Zealand’s premier footwear designer, Kathryn Wilson.
