Kiwis Ravenous for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Getaway
Kiwis Ravenous for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Getaway
Auckland – 9 February 2016
Forget roses, chocolates and candlelit dinners, 96%* of New Zealanders want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a romantic night away or a holiday this year, yet only 1% have made a booking according to new Wotif.co.nz research.
One in four (26%) Kiwis said they had taken a Valentine’s Day getaway in the past and with 99% saying they wish they could take more holidays as a couple than the average of two each year, romantic breaks are high on the relationship priority list.
Wotif Travel Specialist, Kim Stockham says:
“New Zealand couples are craving more holiday time together, and many people are waiting for their partner to make the first move and book a weekend away. Given we’re not in peak travel season, it’s actually a great time to book a hotel or find a package deal so you can surprise loved one with a trip away, or a stay-cation, this Valentine’s Day weekend”
That loving feeling
Getting in the mood for a couples break also seems to come naturally to Kiwis with respondents saying their partners are more relaxed (63.%)**, more willing to try new things (59%) and more romantic (50%) when on holiday.
Love is in the air…and the hotel room
When asked to rank the most important extra touches that a hotel can provide for a romantic getaway, creating the right atmosphere in the room comes out on top for Kiwis.
1: Spa bath in room
2: Champagne or special drinks / food in your room on arrival
3: Room decorations - rose petals, candles, mood lighting
4: Hotel day spa
5: Best seating in hotel restaurant or bar
“Whether you’re after a luxury city stay or remote retreat this Valentine’s Day, Wotif makes it easy to find the right stay for you and your partner. If it’s a spa you’re after, search for hotels with onsite spa to help refine your choices. For me, there’s no better way to start Valentines Day than with breakfast in bed and Wotif also helps you to find properties offering room service.”
Dreamy destinations
Idyllic islands make up the top three ranked ultimate romantic holiday destinations with Bora Bora in Tahiti, Rarotonga and Fiji – right in line with the favourite type of romantic holiday, a beach getaway (49%).
Lakeside breaks (23%) and city escapes (14%) round out the top three types of romantic holidays favoured by Kiwis.
