Remote Workers Workshops

Many organisations struggle with the effectiveness of their remote managers or workers

Press release, 9 February, 2016, Auckland, New Zealand: The trend towards remote working is picking up pace around the world, and New Zealand is well ahead. But when it comes to establishing and managing a remote work environment with staff or partners based away from office, whether elsewhere in New Zealand or internationally, many fail to realise the significant business disruption that can result when issues arise. Kiwi entrepreneur, Annette Dow of Binary Resource is presenting a series of seminars and workshops around New Zealand, aimed at helping leaders, managers and workers to avoid the pitfalls.

Dow has extensive experience in establishing and managing major international software distribution and support companies alongside her training businesses in three countries, servicing corporate, government and third-sector. She has learned valuable lessons about building and leading entities with remotely-based workforces and partners, and has also worked alongside numerous large and small firms that have gone down the ‘remote route’.

“Many organisations make the move to a remote work environment without sufficient planning and preparation for the transition,” she says. “They don’t understand the challenges ahead, or the demands of remote versus traditional team-development and maintenance. Too often organisations overlook the need for re-training, additional or different skills, procedures, tools and support that is essential to the success of managing or being part-of a remote work environment.”

While remote working is not new, adoption is growing almost exponentially across industries, professions and verticals. Here in New Zealand, a whopping 40% of our business professionals work away from the office for half of the week or more. And we’re not alone. Remote working is on the rise globally, with some survey results showing businesses predicting 50% of their full-time staff will be working remotely by 2020.

There are lots of reasons for making the move to a remote environment (or mix of remote and co-located). but many organisations do so without sufficient planning and preparation and end up facing huge challenges when the inevitable problems arise.

Through a series of seminars and workshops targeted at organisation leaders, managers and workers, participants will explore and prepare for the strategic practical and real-world questions, tasks and issues involved in establishing, managing and being part-of a remote workforce.

“Our one-day seminar and two-day Remotely Anywhere workshop series draw on our 18 years of leading and developing operations with a workforce across 14 countries, the majority of whom worked remotely. Using real-life examples, we examine the potential pitfalls, challenges and successes that can help businesses, government departments, third-sector entities and workers to effectively operate in remotely-based environments."
