$1M pledge to Hamilton's Ferrybank Development Project

Donny Trust pledges $1m through Momentum Waikato to Hamilton’s Ferrybank Development Project

Executing the wishes of the Donny Charitable Trust, Momentum Waikato Community Foundation is providing the vehicle for the first donation to be pledged to the Hamilton City River Plan. Donny trustees have pledged $1 million in support of the Ferrybank project, citing its fresh approach to creating a dynamic river edge with greater public accessibility as the reason it captured their imagination.

“The Donny Trust’s generous donation will make a real difference to this key part of the River Plan,” said Mayor Julie Hardaker. “Knowing philanthropic organisations have confidence in this project illustrates the value the river holds for people of the Waikato who, in a few short years, will soon be able to enjoy it in a myriad of exciting new ways.”

Donny Trust Chair Barry Paterson, says, “We wanted to be one of the first to support this important river project for Hamilton, and Momentum Waikato will ensure that our gift is directed to this exciting project.” The Trust is delighted to pledge a donation through Momentum Waikato to the Ferrybank project in honour of the legacy of Frank and Germaine Donny. Donny trustees appreciated the simplicity and flexibility of Momentum Waikato’s giving solutions, and the $1 million pledge to support the River Plan utilises the Foundation’s Today Fund to manage the distribution.

Leonard Gardner, Momentum Waikato Chair, says, “We applaud the Donny Trust’s decision to support the Waikato River development plan and we are delighted that Donny trustees have made a conscious choice to work with our Foundation. As the custodians of charitable trusts consider their gifting programmes and succession planning, it is the hope of Momentum Waikato Community Foundation that others will follow the example of the Donny Charitable Trust and speak with us to explore the benefits and opportunities that lead to greater community impact.”
