Applications open for SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust grants

Do you know of a charitable group or organisation in your community in need of funding?

Applications are now open for SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust, and local community groups in the Auckland and Far North regions are encouraged to apply for funding now.

SKYCITY Auckland and SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust are committed to supporting families to thrive and communities to prosper.

The Trust is independent and has several focus areas to guide both Trustees decision making and potential applicants. The Trust prioritises community groups that encourage financial capability, employment and economic prosperity for families and youth, and healthy and stable families.

SKYCITY Auckland General Manager John Mortensen says it’s rewarding to financially support so many local community groups each year.

“We have a dedicated team at SKYCITY Auckland that works hard to ensure the success of the business, and it’s great to know that part of that financial success is then shared with local community groups through the Trust,” says Mr Mortensen.

In 2015, the Trust distributed grants totalling over $2.4 million to 112 community groups. Three of the grants involved sums over $100,000, with the majority of recipients received grants of between $5,000 and $30,000.

SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust Chairman John Bongard says there are so many people in our communities who are passionate and driven to create positive, ongoing change that support healthy communities.

“It’s so heartening to know that we have a significant fund and can support so many of these groups to continue the valuable work that they do. I strongly encourage anyone working for a group or organisation whose work fits within our focus areas to apply,” says Mr Bongard.

SKYCITY Auckland shares a percentage of net annual profit to the Trust, with a stronger financial performance resulting in a greater contribution to the Trust and more funding distributed to local community groups.

Any community groups that fit one or more of the key criteria are encouraged to submit an application for funding before 5pm on Friday 24 March.

This year the Trust welcomes two new trustees, Merv Ah Chee and Richard Didsbury, replacing Frank Bunce who has been with the Trust for six years.

Since establishment, the SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust has distributed over $35.3 million to more than 2,000 charitable organisations, both large and small.

Guidance notes and the application form are available online here www.skycityauckland.co.nz/about-us/community/grants/ or email enquiries@skycitycommunitytrust.org.nz. Applications close on Thursday 24 March at 5pm.
