Agrifeeds develops new range of seasonal feeds

Greater Value And Efficiency the Aim of Agrifeeds’ New Range of Seasonal Feeds

A new range of seasonal feeds developed by Agrifeeds specifically for New Zealand farmers is already getting great autumn results while setting up farms for a productive spring.

The first of the four feeds – Pro Blend Extender – went on sale in mid-February and has been met with a very positive response.

“This is a higher protein blend which is extremely palatable so the cows will eat more and produce more milk,” says Agrifeeds’Animal Nutrition Sales Representative Phillip Harrison.

“Farmers are keenly aware of the need to maximise value so have been very supportive of our decision to launch the new Pro Blend range.”

Agrifeeds has engaged highly-regarded animal nutritionist Grant Richards to develop the new products, which will be introduced as the seasons unfold.

Pro Blend Extender (PBE) is designed to meet dairy cow requirements during late summer and early autumn when pasture quality is low. With its high protein and energy, it helps maintain feed intake and rumen fibre digestion, optimises body condition scores for calving and extends time in-milk.

The second Pro Blend product will be for cows transitioning from the dry period to lactation.
The third will be an early lactation blend followed by a spring feed.

“With our new range, we’re encouraging farmers to take a more balanced and planned approach to nutrition on farm,” says Harrison.

“Careful autumn nutrition is vital for preparing body condition scores of cows and heifers heading into winter and leading into calving. Pro Blend Extender may cost a bit more than straight palm kernel expeller, for example, but PBE increases milk volume and quality so it’s money well-spent. It’s an affordable and cost-effective option to drive value for farmers.”

Due to different requirements and pasture quality, there are two separate formulations for PBE – one for the North Island, the other for the South Island.

As well as the Pro Blend range, Agrifeeds offers New Zealand dairy farmers the widest range of top quality dry and liquid feed as well as custom-blended options.
