Greenkeeper’s house teed-up as ‘par-fect’ for golf-lovers

Greenkeeper’s house teed-up as ‘par-fect’ for golf-loving owners

A former green-keeper’s house overlooking the tree-lined fairway of a golf course has been placed on the market for sale – with the lure of watching birdies off the back deck.

And if the temptation of having a putting green on the back lawn wasn’t enough to have ‘eagle’-eyed golfing enthusiasts lining up, the fully renovated three-bedroom bungalow on the edge of Matamata Golf Course even has its own back yard big enough for a private par-three hole.

The home sits on some 5000 square metres of land and is being marketed for sale at auction on April 14 by Bayleys Matamata salesperson Neville Jacques. The section encompasses two titles – allowing any new owner the opportunity to sell off one of the titles for development into a separate dwelling.

Neville Jacques said a strategic planting of large macrocarpa trees on a corner of the section, meant the house was well protected from most stray shots off the fifth tee for the 326 metre par four.

“The other side of the property is pretty much outside the driving distance of most golfers except for the likes of Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson – and those guys don’t stray off the fairway,” Mr Jacques said.

“It’s like Matamata’s answer to The Block NZ.”

“Over the course of the past 12 months, the property owner has meticulously renovated and refurbished the dwelling to look like an Auckland villa. New carpet has been laid throughout, the kitchen and bathroom are totally new, and extensive wrap-around decking has been installed.”

Mr Jacques said the most likely buyer would be someone with a passion for golf, or a family looking for a sizeable big back yard capable of handling not only a climbing frame and trampoline, but also a swimming pool…. and still with enough room to add a big ‘boys toys’ storage barn.

“And if the rigors of playing 18 holes or sitting on the ride-on mower doing the lawns take their toll on your muscles, Opal Hot Springs with its year-round outdoor thermal pools is just 100 metres down the road,” he said.

“Golfers would have to ‘drive’ a ‘fairway’ to find anything else like this in the Waikato,” he joked.
