Countdown and Disney conjure up creativity

Countdown and Disney conjure up creativity through latest collectible craze

Countdown and Disney team up once again to bring classic stories to life through the new collectible range, Disney Movie Stars.

31 March 2016: Countdown’s latest collectible range, Disney Movie Stars, takes Kiwi kids on a magical journey through popular Disney animated films.

Collectible packs are given away for free with every $20 spent in Countdown, and feature a Disney character sticker, and a card designed to be used in a projector. Each card offers four classic scenes from the film, allowing kids the chance to share stories based on the classic illustrations projected.

Each card includes four projectable frames from a scene of a classic Disney tale. Watch seven cheeky dwarfs, whimsical teacups and mischievous lion cubs tumble off the cards and into real life with the mini Countdown projector (RRP $10).

Disney Movie Stars encourages children to re-tell stories in their own words, prompted by the projected movie images, replacing the pressure to remember stories word-for-word with the freedom to let their imagination run wild.

There are 42 cards and stickers to collect featuring seven of Disney’s most timeless stories including:

- Mickey Mouse
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- The Jungle Book
- Beauty and the Beast
- Aladdin
- The Lion King
- Frozen

Countdown will be hosting swap-meets at stores throughout New Zealand in May, where shoppers can trade cards and stickers to complete their collection.

Countdown General Manager Marketing Bridget Lamont says Disney Movie Stars cards feature classic Disney stories adored by all generations, as well as modern classics that are a hit with kids today.

“Storytelling encourages imagination, creativity and togetherness. Disney Movie Stars offers Kiwi families the chance to re-tell stories in their own words, while the projector adds a unique and interactive alternative to the traditional bedtime book,” says Ms Lamont.

“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to our previous collectibles and we anticipate Disney Movie Stars will be a hit too.”

“Beginning with Snow White in 1937 through to Frozen, the top-grossing animated film of all time, Disney’s classic films continue to enchant adults and children alike,” said Kylie Watson-Wheeler, General Manager, Disney Consumer Products and Retail, The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand.

“Disney is delighted to join with Countdown to offer this collectibles program, which allows New Zealand fans of all ages to experience and play with their favourite Disney classic characters in an entirely new way.”

Shoppers will receive a Disney Movie Stars pack with every $20 spent at Countdown until 15 May, 2016.
