‘Glamping’ holiday campsite placed on the market for sale

Privately-owned ‘glamping’ holiday campsite placed on the market for sale

A quirky pop up container camping ground and accommodation facility for private use in the seaside village of Waihi Beach on the Coromandel has been placed on the market for sale.

Club HaWaihi provides the new ‘glamping’ experience trend now entrenched in New Zealand – where families want the experience of sleeping in tents or caravans, yet still demand access to many of the luxuries of living at home – such as a lounge, full cooking facilities, a crowd-free ‘boutique’ space, and of course ice-cold beer and wine in the fridge to enjoy with a plate of antipasto.

The Club HaWaihi land, buildings and chattels are being marketed for sale through Bayleys Tauranga salespeople Brendon and Lynn Bradley by auction on May 4. The pop-up caravan park and campsite is located opposite the beautiful beachfront reserve that opens onto the nine kilometers of stunning surf and golden sands of Waihi Beach.

Chattels included in the Club HaWaihi sale include:

A trio of 20 foot shipping containers – two converted into an adjoining bar and lounge area, and one covered into a twin bedroom unit

A 17 foot Oxford caravan

A retro’ style 15 foot Crusader caravan

A Lightweight 13 foot caravan

Two fully-equipped kitchens with stainless steel benchtops, food storage fridge/freezers, gas-powered burner cooking units, and a wine and beer fridge

Nine powered campsites.

“It’s a turn-key operation. Club HaWaihi is what you would call ‘glamping’…. a hybrid version of your family member who has a large beach section and invites all their whanau and mates down for the holidays and you pitch a spot or park up the caravan wherever and all pitch in together,” said Mr Bradley..

“For example, the communal lounge area housed within the joined shipping container structure features a bar area, TV complete with Sky connection, stereo system, and a range of couch and sofa seating options.

“For a new owner, Club HaWaihi is very attractive with its boutique size and nature that offers an alternative and more laid-back holiday accommodation options. Meanwhile, as semi-permanent but moveable structures, the caravans and wood panel-lined container unit pander to the ‘glamping’ side of the camping fraternity.

A full catalogue of recreational chattels complete with outdoor wood fired oven and paella cooker are included in the sale, and are listed in the property information memorandum available to purchasers.

“The site’s entire facilities are regularly used by the owners and extended families or groups of invited friends who don’t have access to their own seaside sections, but want to be together in a communal camping environment.”

He said there was considerable potential for any new owner to develop this site with options such as multi-unit apartments, boutique accommodation or maybe one or two dream beach bachs which could all capitalise on the fantastic coastal views of the Pacific Ocean that just get better as you build up.

The corner site has a 38 metre street frontage facing seaward on Beach Road, with a 24 metre frontage on Pacific Avenue. The site provides a flat building platform that allows for comfortable positioning of campervans, caravans and tents.

Under the Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s currently district plan, the land is zoned residential. The front lot of the freehold 822 square metre rectangular site was formerly zoned commercial but was re-categorised to residential when resource consent was granted for the construction of an eight-unit three-story residential apartment block in 2005. The resource consent has since lapsed for this development.

“Waihi Beach benefits from being an easily accessible holiday destination for almost half of New Zealand’s population living in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua,” Mr Bradley said.

“It’s well known that Aucklanders in particular love their home comforts – even when they are ‘camping’ on holiday. And Club HaWaihi has pandered to this.”
