Government electric vehicle boost is welcome change of gear

Years of work by Kiwi businesses on electric vehicle uptake are finally getting the government boost they deserve.

Today’s announcement by Transport Minister Simon Bridges introduces a package of measures to stimulate electric vehicle adoption in New Zealand.
Rachel Brown, CEO of the Sustainable Business Network, welcomed the change of direction.

“This will assist the businesses already working on this,” she said. “Being exempt from Road User Charges and being able to use the bus lanes and high occupancy lanes should inspire more of us to make our next car an electric one.

“It re-affirms the decision of companies like Air New Zealand, NZ Post and Mighty River Power to choose electric vehicles for their fleets.

“We are looking forward to continuing this work and seeing how and when the rest of the measures roll out.”
