Clubs NZ Members Not Affected By New Payment System

Clubs New Zealand is concerned that muddled media commentary on a new payments system to reimburse commercial venues for hosting gambling machines may mislead the public into presuming non-profit Clubs have been receiving rentals for their in-house class 4 gaming machines A media release by Internal Affairs Minister, the Hon Peter Dunne advises that the Government agreed to a new payments system for venues hosting class 4 gaming machines in bars and pubs.

Clubs New Zealand members operating gaming machines will not be included in the new payment system.

“Chartered clubs own and manage the machines in their venues and do not receive payments from other societies or trusts that are licensed to operate Class 4 gaming machines,” say Clubs New Zealand Chief Executive Larry Graham. “The rules clubs are required to follow are significantly different to those applied to commercial bars and pubs. Most clubs are non-profit organisations which are predominantly owned by the members. Clubs are required to apply the funds from gaming machines to assist their own communities. Societies or trusts are required to distribute their funds to support charitable community activities via a grants process.”
