Continuing the successful streak in the Feature Writer category, Metro’s Naomi Arnold and Peter Malcouronne took home the awards for best Lifestyle and Sport features respectively.

Excitingly, the major award for Magazine of the Year was presented to Home.

The judges commented that Home “stood out for its editorial cohesion, attention to quality and detail, innovative design and genuine multi-media strategy”.

The Listener and Metro also wowed the judges in the Opinion Writing category, with wins for Simon Wilson for Reviewer of the Year (Metro), Jane Clifton for best Opinion Writer for Politics (The Listener) and Paul Thomas taking the award for Opinion Writer for Sport (The Listener).

Best Magazine Design was awarded to Micheal Hanly and Carolyn Lewis of Metro with the judges noting that “when a magazine cover makes you take a sharp intake of breath of admiration, you know you’ve found a winner”.

Paul Dykzeul, CEO of Bauer Media Group, was ecstatic with the wins, “I'm immensely proud of our achievements at the prestigious Canon awards”.

“At Bauer Media we have always had a passionate focus on quality journalism and the critical role it plays in New Zealand society”, Dykzeul said. “This passion is shared by our editors and all our very talented teams. As we clearly face uncertain times in print journalism, Bauer's passion and commitment to journalism will continue to grow”.
