E t meets with Spotless to sort out pay problems

E T has met today with Spotless and says it is working with the contracting company to fix the pay issues dogging its cleaning and kitchen staff.

Spotless employs thousands of cleaning, catering and facility maintenance staff and the union has received many complaints about underpayment, incorrect holiday pay, no pay at all some weeks, as well as workers not receiving pay slips.

Some have reported problems with the voice recognition system used to clock workers on and off their shifts.

E t’s Assistant National Secretary, John Ryall who met with Spotless managers this morning, says Spotless has acknowledged the problems and is working constructively with the union to fix them.

He says Spotless has agreed to work on a system that rectifies any agreed underpaymentwithin 24 hours of its receipt.

He says the union is setting up a flow chart for workers and delegates to follow to ensure pay problems are promptly and efficiently.

“I am pleased the constructive approach that Spotless has shown to overcoming the concerns the union has raised. Any underpayment for a minimum wage worker can mean the difference between providing food for their kids, or starving. We need to get it right.”
