Strong attendance at Northland rollover prevention seminars

Strong attendance at Northland rollover prevention seminars

Over 180 truck drivers, transport operators and forest owners have attended two Rollover Prevention Safer Journeys seminars in Whangarei over the last two days.

“The road transport industry takes our responsibility as users of New Zealand’s public road network very seriously. The recent incidents in Northland are particularly concerning,” says Road Transport Forum Chief Executive Ken Shirley.

“There is no higher priority to our industry than the safety of our drivers and other road users, which is why the Road Transport Forum and our member associations are determined to do all we can to help prevent truck rollover,” says Shirley.

“The objective of the Rollover Prevention Safer Journeys Programme is to ensure drivers have the best possible information on the range of factors affecting heavy vehicle stability.”

“It is imperative that we educate drivers and freight loaders on the factors that can cause a truck to roll, including the influence of speed, centre of gravity, weight transfer and cornering forces.”

“The industry is very grateful to NZTA’s Jeff Fleury for running these outstanding seminars. Jeff is a highly regarded vehicle safety specialist with over 40 years of experience in heavy vehicle accidents and safety initiatives,” says Shirley

The Rollover Prevention Safer Journeys Programme is a joint initiative between the Road Transport Forum and NZTA and the various seminars around the country are supported by National Road Carriers, Road Transport Association NZ, NZ Trucking Association and forest owners.
