The Block NZ Premiere Helps TV3 Win Sunday Night

The Block NZ Premiere Helps TV3 Win Sunday Night, TV3 Wins Friday Night & Samantha Hayes And Ingrid Hipkiss Appointed Hosts

Season five of The Block NZ premiered last night on TV3, eclipsing last season’s launch, with 616,200 New Zealanders* (56,800 more than season four) tuning in to see the four new teams of girls and boys battling it out for the best home on The Block.

In its target audience of 25-54 year olds, the episode drew 309,600 viewers*, an increase of 50,800 from last season’s premiere. Overall season five’s launch outperformed season four in All People 5+, as well as 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, and was the top streamed show for both long and short form for the night.

These results contributed to TV3 winning Sunday night in its key target demographic of 25-54 year olds, as well as 18-49.

The night’s win was supported by Russell Crowe’s biblical epic Noah also winning its timeslot in 25-54 and 18-49.

This strong result was matched by TV3’s Friday night line-up, the channel winning the night in key 25-54 and 18-49 demographics. Leading the result were Jono & Ben, The Graham Norton Show and 7 Days, once again crowned champions to the start of the weekend, winning their timeslots in 25-54 and 18-49.

MediaWorks was also pleased to make two major appointments. From tonight, Newshub journalist and presenter Samantha Hayes will join Mike McRoberts as the weekday co-host of TV3’s flagship Newshub Live at 6pm.

At the other end of the day, Newshub Live at 6pm weekday weather presenter and former political reporter Ingrid Hipkiss was announced as the newest member of the Paul Henry team, joining Paul, Jim Kayes and Verity Johnson weekday mornings as news anchor.

Paul Henry’s ratings success continues, the show beating TVNZ’s Breakfast in 25-54 on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
