Chair of MinterEllisonRuddWatts named in honours list

Chair of MinterEllisonRuddWatts named as an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit

Our congratulations to Cathy Quinn, Chair of MinterEllisonRuddWatts, who has been named as an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.

The honour recognises Cathy’s leadership in the law including in promoting sound securities law and corporate governance as well as championing and mentoring women.

Cathy was a member of the Securities Commission for nine years and the only lawyer appointed to the government’s Capital Markets Development Taskforce. Cathy is a recognized expert on best practice corporate governance. She is a member of the Commercial Advisory Board to the New Zealand Treasury and a member of the Council Executive Board of The New Zealand China Council. She has twice represented New Zealand on the Prime Minister’s Business Delegation to China, and in 2016 was co leader of the business delegation.

A lawyer with leading law firm MinterEllisonRuddWatts for over 30 years, Cathy has been involved in many hall mark deals in New Zealand. She was elected Chair of the firm in 2009 and is the only female Chair of a top tier New Zealand law firm. Cathy has steered the firm towards many accomplishments, including becoming a leader in diversity and performing strongly during the economic downturn. The firm has won many significant business awards including large law firm of the year for 2 years in a row and taking home the supreme award at the 2014 AUT Excellence in Business Support Awards.

Cathy has won numerous personal awards including being named the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award Winner 2010 (New Zealand).

Asked to comment, Cathy said "I am honoured, humbled and grateful for both the opportunities I have had and to those who have encouraged and supported me in my career and life to date".
