New insurer Travel Insurance NZ covers terrorism

New insurer Travel Insurance NZ covers terrorism

Up until now not a single insurer in the New Zealand market covered acts of terrorism for travellers headed abroad.

However, with the launch of Travel Insurance NZ (or TINZ), travellers can now purchase cover with terrorism cover benefits, a landmark event in an increasingly unstable travel climate.

Tourists planning to visit some of the world’s most iconic travel destinations can now do so knowing they are protected against the threat of terrorism. TINZ covers travellers who are both directly affected by an act of terrorism as well as those planning to visit the area in the immediate future.

Natalie Ball, Director of Travelinsurance.co.nz says:

“We are excited to launch TINZ. We are passionate about travel insurance and can proudly say that our product is one of a kind. TINZ covers travellers affected by terrorism in addition to providing standout benefits such as extended single trip duration and higher per item luggage limits.”

“While many products exclude cover for cancellation fees and lost deposits in the event of terrorism, we allow you to cancel in the event that travel warnings restrict you from travel. We also provide travellers with $10 million worth of medical and expatriation cover if they are affected by a terror attack.”

In addition, TINZ provides travellers with alternative accommodation in the event that they are staying within the vicinity of a terrorist attack. Along with 24-hour emergency assistance, travellers affected by terrorism are also eligible to claim on travel delays, loss of personal items, travel curtailment or rearrangement plus medical evacuation, death and permanent disability cover.

The inspiration for TINZ came about after Ball noticed a distinct void in the market for products catering to real customer concerns.

Ball says, “With terrorism a real and frightening reality in today’s world, it is our goal to provide customers with the peace of mind they require when travelling. New Zealand travellers seeking a comprehensive policy that will really protect them in the event of terrorism can now turn to TINZ. “

“We are firm believers in the spirit of travel and adventure. Our policies have been designed to reflect our customers desire to travel safely and without restriction.”

Extended trip lengths

In a largely homogenous market, TINZ’s benefits and pricing are both competitive and unique. For a two-week trip, travellers can purchase a policy for just $38.27. TINZ’s single trip cover has no age restrictions and can offer customers up to 547 days of continuous travel. Frequent travellers can purchase cover for up to three months at a time.

Cruise cover and additional benefits

TINZ charges no extra for cruise cover, covering travellers both at land and sea for no additional cost. And those wishing to travel with laptops, tablets or cameras can do so knowing that gadgets are covered for up to $3,000 per item. Individual items are also covered for up to $1,000, a bonus in a market where standard per-item limits are usually capped at $750.

A final word

In summary, the benefits of TINZ’S product are

- 24/7 Emergency Assistance

- Unlimited medical cover

- Extended durations for single trip cover

- Increased single item limits ($1000 for non-specified items, $3000 for laptops, tablets, cameras and smartphones).

- Ability to increase excess to $200 and reduce policy premium

- Automatic cruise cover at no additional cost
