NEWSTALK ZB NUMBER ONE RADIO STATION IN NEW ZEALAND^
HOSKING NUMBER ONE BREAKFAST IN NEW ZEALAND**
21 July 2016 – The results for the second 2016 GfK independent radio survey have been released.
Newstalk ZB dominates the Total NZ market as New Zealand’s number one radio station as does The Mike Hosking Breakfast, which retains its number one Breakfast spot, and dominates the competition.**
“In an intense news cycle, locally and internationally, New Zealanders have turned to the Mike Hosking Breakfast show as the trusted news source,” says Dean Buchanan, NZME Group Director Entertainment, “Newstalk ZB is a power brand, consistently being New Zealand’s leading commercial radio station* since 2003.”
Buchanan says NZME music brands continue to grow listeners, with ZM, The Hits, Radio Hauraki, Mix and Flava all growing their audience in Auckland. The Flava result is a highlight, out-rating George FM, The Rock and Radio Live. #
“We’re only six months into the Flava refresh including a new breakfast show lineup, which has performed incredibly strongly. It’s a tremendous result.”
NZME Chief Commercial Officer, Laura Maxwell says it is immensely pleasing the relevance of commercial radio in New Zealand is confirmed with 3.1 million listeners tuning into commercial radio. The recent results show people spend over 16.5 hours a week listening to commercial radio, demonstrating significant engagement.##
“More people are listening to radio than ever before and NZME has over 1.8 million of those listeners.^ In a time where advertisers have a plethora of options, the results show that radio is a sound choice to reach audiences at scale. Add to that the ability to reach NZME audiences across both broadcast and iHeartRadio and it’s a very compelling proposition."
iHeartRadio
continues to be a great proposition for advertisers with
476,019 registered users, which is year on year growth of
30% and there have been 635,207 app downloads up 37%
from last year.
“iHeartRadio is significant in NZME’s
offering to clients,” says Buchanan. “People are glued
to their phones and tablets and as a result there have been
over 1.9 million listening hours in June (up 47%
year on year). Of these 87% listened via a mobile
device (up 36% year on year).”
