A new charge on McDonald’s menu
Electric vehicle enthusiasts were undeterred by the wild and blustery weather on Friday 29 July with around 40 turning up to the launch of two rapid chargers at McDonald’s Greenlane. On display were a number of electric vehicles including a Tesla, BMW i8 and i3 and Nissan Leaf’s. People arrived throughout the launch to plug their vehicles into the chargers. There are now 8 rapid chargers deployed across Auckland with installations planned this year for BP Pakuranga and Auckland Airport Shopping Centre.

EV chargers helping the environment
Vector’s electric vehicle charging stations continue to be used regularly. Since we began installing chargers in November 2015, we have served29.54 MWh of electricity, potentially saving as much as 39,263.79 kilograms of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere[1].

Network summary for week ending 31 July 2016
Electricity
There were three car v pole accidents during the week in New Lynn, Papatoetoe and Lynfield.

Meanwhile, our crews were busy isolating the power at eight fires at homes and buildings across the region – in New Lynn, Manurewa, Glenfield, Onehunga, Warkworth, Otahuhu, Waiheke Island and in the city centre.
Gas
Vector crews were called out to sites in Favona and Browns Bay after contactors struck gas pipes in those areas.
