A shared passion for spuds

A shared passion for spuds

Fiesta Bulbs have today announced a partnership with Garden to Table. This charity enables New Zealand school children nationwide to experience both growing and cooking their own produce within their school environment.

Fiesta Bulbs saw a great fit with Garden to Table as both organisations are passionate about encouraging Kiwi kids to learn about the process of planting and harvesting crops.

The Garden to Table programme has been running for eight years and is committed to changing the way children approach and think about food. The children aged between seven and twelve get their hands dirty as they learn how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food.

Last week Fiesta shipped packs of their new range of European seed potatoes nationwide to 40 schools in the programme for children to grow this season.

Fiesta will also make a donation to Garden to Table from every pack purchased in their Fiesta Seed Potatoes range, which is available in good gardening outlets nationwide.

Fiesta Bulbs, Managing Director, John Harrison, said; “We are delighted to share our passion for spuds as a partner of the Garden to Table programme. We love to see children growing their own in the garden, especially potatoes, so it made perfect sense for us to get onboard. Potatoes are easy and fun for kids to grow; not just because they taste great, but at harvest time it’s like a treasure hunt digging up the potatoes! For us this partnership also means our customers and suppliers can feel good when they purchase from our seed potato range, knowing they are giving something back to kiwi kids and a great initiative.”

Linda Taylor, Executive Officer of Garden to Table, said; “We are really excited to have Fiesta Bulbs come on board as a partner. The children really do love growing potatoes and it is a good vegetable for them to take home and show the family how easy they are to grow. Plus with so many ways to cook them, it gives children plenty of opportunities to be involved in the kitchen both at school and at home which is something we love to see.”

The Fiesta Seed Potato range retails from around $7.00 for 10 seed potatoes per 1kg bag (approx) and is now available in good gardening outlets nationwide. For more information about Fiesta Bulbs, visit www.fiestabulbs.co.nz
