Opus board welcomes Sam Knowles as director as Fraser Whineray resigns

Opus International Consultants welcomes Sam Knowles as a director of the company from 17 August 2016 following the resignation of Fraser Whineray.

Having held senior positions with major banks (BNZ, NAB and Kiwibank) in both Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Knowles has extensive experience in strategy, organisational capability building, private and public sector governance and innovation and venture capital.

Since 2011 Mr. Knowles has held a number of governance roles in growth businesses, with an export and technology focus. As CEO of Kiwibank he led the company through its transition from a start-up to an established business with over 700,000 customers and more than 1,000 employees.

“The board is delighted to appoint Sam as a director, with the wealth of expertise he will bring to the business, Opus Chairman Kerry McDonald says.

Currently Mr. Knowles is a director of listed companies Synlait Ltd and Trustpower Ltd, and of private companies Magritek Ltd, Umajin Ltd and Rangatira Ltd. He is Chairman of Partners Life Ltd, On-Brand Partners, and Adminis Ltd. He was previously Chairman of Xero Ltd, and a director of SLI Ltd, both NZX listed companies.

Mr. Knowles joins the board after the resignation of Fraser Whineray, who will leave his non-executive director role on 17 August 2016 to focus on his executive commitments.

Mr. McDonald commends Fraser on his commitment to the company.

“Fraser has made a very valuable contribution to the company and directors we’re sorry to see him leave the board.”

Mr. Whineray was appointed to the board of Opus in October 2008, and has been a valued member of both the Audit and Risk Committees of the board.
