Former Principal steps up to lead Hato Petera

Former Principal steps up to lead Hato Petera to a sustainable model for the future.

A new governance structure for the hostel of Hato Petera College was confirmed last Sunday at the inaugural general meeting of Hato Petera Society Incorporated. Executive members of the registered society who were elected were:

Chairperson: Dr Sir Noble (Toby) Curtis.
Deputy-chairperson: Frank Solomon.
Secretary: Norman McKenzie.
Treasurer: Janice Smith.
Kaumatua & Kuia: Joseph Edwards and Naida Glavish
Rangatahi representative: Wiremu Smith.

Under the new structure, the Society is the holder of the single share in Hato Petera Limited, the company which holds the licence to operate the school’s hostels. The Society’s executive is empowered to appoint up to five directors of the company. Both the society and the company are registered under the relevant legislation.

Sir Toby commented: “We are grateful for the assistance we have received from the Catholic Bishop of Auckland and his diocesan officials, as well as from officials of the Ministry of Education in the establishment of this new governance structure for the non-integrated sections of Hato Petera Marae, and we hope that we can now work toward securing the future of this College which has served our people well since its foundation in 1928.”
