New feature for ground-breaking Bigpipe App

ISP Bigpipe has released a new feature for its ground-breaking Bigpipe App

New Zealand ISP Bigpipe has released a new feature for its ground-breaking Bigpipe App that allows customers to effortlessly test their broadband connection for faults.

"For many people in New Zealand, ADSL broadband is still their only connection option, and the copper network that ADSL runs on has been around for many decades and is susceptible to many things. Faults can be caused by a huge number of factors outside an ISP's control, from corrosion, to pest infestations, to rain. Customers also face a myriad of issues that can be caused by home equipment. An ISP can't directly control many of these factors - but Bigpipe can still help customers a great deal with our new line-testing feature," says Sarvajith Ravishankar, Bigpipe Product Manager.

“If our customers are unfortunate enough to be experiencing connection problems, it's often difficult, and frustrating, for a customer to identify where the problem lies. It can also be time-consuming and tricky for an ISP to work with the customer through the difficult business of troubleshooting to eliminate faults on a particular connection. Our new line-testing feature means if our customers are having a problem with their connection, they can automatically discover what may be wrong, with just the push of a button, without needing to contact us in the first instance,” Ravishankar says.

“Our technology allows us to remotely identify the cause of many faults, reducing customer frustration as well as troubleshooting time. Once a problem's been identified, customers can instantly send the results of the testing to our customer support centre, which means much faster and more satisfying resolutions for problems."

The automated line testing feature is the first of its kind in New Zealand, and is a key part of Bigpipe’s drive to be the technology leader across the broadband industry.

Free fibre upgrade for Bigpipe customers

Bigpipe are also pleased to announce that they are upgrading all customers on their Elite 200/200 Fibre plan to Gigabit (1000 mbps upload and download) speeds wherever Gigabit is available, at no extra charge.

Currently, Gigabit availability has been announced for areas serviced by Enable and Ultrafast Fibre, which include Christchurch and Hamilton. The Gigabit price for all regions outside Dunedin will be the same as the current Elite plan pricing, $129 a month.

“If Chorus or another LFC launch gigabit plans elsewhere, we’d love to upgrade our customers in those regions as well,” Ravishankar says.

About the Bigpipe App

The Bigpipe App is available for download in the Apple Store (for iPhones and iPads) and the Google Play Store (for Android devices.)

Many ISPs provide apps for their customers, but the Bigpipe App’s killer feature is the ability for users to prioritise their internet connections for different things, as well as automatically testing their lines for faults.

The Bigpipe App has a “Mode Selector” feature that allows customers to view what’s happening on their network and decide what kind of traffic gets priority over their Bigpipe connection.

For instance, if a user wants to watch streaming video, a single tap using the Mode Selector will tell their Bigpipe connection to give priority to streaming video traffic - meaning faster, higher quality streams and less buffering. Users can choose between Streaming, Browsing, Downloading, Communication, and Gaming modes. The Mode Selector shows what sort of traffic is being used at any given time, and mode changes take effect within seconds.

More features are being added to the Bigpipe app all the time. Anyone can download the app, but it will only work if users have a Bigpipe connection in NZ.

About Bigpipe

Bigpipe is the first ISP to offer all-online service and all-unlimited data with no restrictions. It is owned by leading New Zealand telecommunications company Spark but operates separately with an independent network, customer care team, and billing system.
