Robyn Malcolm shows there’s more to explore in Auckland

AUCKLAND, 5 September, 2016: Popular Kiwi actress Robyn Malcolm is encouraging New Zealanders to get out and explore Auckland as part of a new marketing campaign launched last week.

The nine-week campaign created by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) showcases a diverse range of tourism experiences in the greater Auckland region.

Malcolm plays the starring role in seven short videos shot throughout Auckland focusing on lesser known gems around the regions of Huia and Waitakere, Franklin/Awhitu Peninsula, Matakana Coast, Great Barrier Island, Pohutukawa Coast, Hauraki Gulf and Northwest Country (Kumeu).

ATEED Head of Tourism, Jason Hill, says the campaign builds on the success of last year’s ‘Beyond Your Backyard’ campaign targeted at Aucklanders, which also featured Malcolm. “As hosts, Aucklanders have a huge influence on what their guests choose to do when visiting our region, so we regularly run campaigns to help increase their local knowledge,” he said. “The aim is that they share this knowledge with their visiting friends and relatives over the coming months so they can see more and stay longer in Auckland.”

Research conducted following the ‘Beyond Your Backyard’ campaign showed 61 per cent of Aucklanders who saw the campaign were prompted to take action, including 34 per cent who took a day or short trip within the Auckland region.

Mr Hill says: “With the ‘More to Explore’ campaign we want to capture a national audience and encourage more visitors to travel to Auckland between September and November. We also want to keep building on the work we’ve been doing to create a proud cohort of knowledgeable Auckland ambassadors”.

Mr Hill said Robyn Malcolm provides an recognisable and influential face to help tell the Auckland region’s story and demonstrates to the country that you can always ‘discover a new side of Auckland’.

The seven videos will play on TVNZ, TVNZ OnDemand and YouTube. The campaign also includes a mix of online banner advertising, outdoor advertising and social media.
