Building Industry Leadership with the Quix Plumbing Network

Building Industry Leadership with the Quix Plumbing Network

Quix NZ limited are building New Zealand’s leading plumbing network to help progress the plumbing industry.

The network stems from a belief in a model that improves best practice and long-term benefit for the many plumbing businesses across the country. The Quix Network aims to steadily integrate a collaborative group of plumbing businesses into a brand that adds significant value for all members who choose to join.

Most plumbers are aware of the current predicament facing the industry: the plumbing trade in New Zealand remains highly segmented, into thousands of small businesses with less than 5 people. When the heads of these small businesses either retire or leave the industry the company shuts up shop, failing to realise any further value from the business. Quix believe the status quo needs to be challenged.

The Quix Network was born out of witnessing this problem continue to rear its head. Conceived back in 2009, the Quix Network initially stalled due to the Global Financial Crisis of that year which stunted growth in the industry. Fast-forward to today where the New Zealand economy is back on track and in Auckland Quix has substantially expanded its network.

The foundation member Quix Auckland – led by John Kendrick has seen substantial growth in new home build plumbing fit outs – to be the market leader with quality group builders. John has been joined in business by Glen Lewis who was the New Zealand GM of Caroma Bathroomware - and is well known as a leader in the plumbing sector.

Glen acknowledges that it was the strength of Johns business and of the Quix brand and concept that persuaded him to take the big leap to business ownership. Quix Auckland are now plumbing more than 200 houses at any one time – which takes real leadership and smart systems.

John and Glen were last year joined by Dave Henderson and Maurice Tusa from the long standing HW Coyles. The Company had suffered through the contraction in the Auckland Commercial build sector, but they were helped through a turnaround by the founder team of Quix New Zealand and Alister Lawrence – formerly CEO of NZPM Group – and now Executive Director and shareholder of Quix New Zealand.

Dave and Maurice readily acknowledge the support and business savvy provided by Quix New Zealand team has turned around their business and their lives. Quix Commercial took over the business of H W Coyle and is back to full speed in the large scale construction market in which they have real expertise. Recent projects they have completed, or in process, include the flagship Fonterra World Headquarters on North Wharf.

Without a doubt the housing shortage in Auckland and the need to re-build Christchurch has driven a construction boom in New Zealand. The demand for skilled tradesmen is on the rise and clients are on the look out for trusted brands to deliver the goods.

The Quix vision is to build a network where member plumbers are recognised as professional businesses, with a real focus on service, quality, systems and health and safety. As Quix leader Alister Lawrence puts it, this is for the good of the plumbers and the industry as a whole moving into the future.

The benefits of the Quix Network for plumbing businesses can’t be underestimated. Those who choose to join will enjoy strong industry leadership, best practice standards and innovation, flexible entry and exit options, whilst maintaining control over their business, national coverage, a mutually supportive network, and exit from the business with real equity value.

The day-to-day benefits of the business operation include senior professional business support from Alister and the Quix NZ team, work referrals and national contracts, visibility and profile from marketing activity, product sourcing leverage, networking and shared learning; and services such as GPS tracking, accounting and project management support.

If you are in the Plumbing Sector and want to join the group structured by plumbers and for plumbers - and with real business savvy, then call or email Alister Lawrence.
