Fly Buys travel rewards take off

Fly Buys travel rewards take off

Fly Buys strengthens and expands travel offering, gives 2.5 million customers more choice

Auckland, 14 October 2016 – Fly Buys, New Zealand’s largest loyalty programme, announced today a new travel proposition giving customers more choice about how and where they travel and more ways to be rewarded.

From today, Fly Buys customers will be able to spend their points on all types of travel including flights, packages, accommodation and cruises through travel partner helloworld – and then earn points back on that spend.

Stephen England-Hall, CEO of Loyalty New Zealand, the company that runs Fly Buys, says that travel is important to the programme’s 2.5 million members and they want a greater range of options.

“Our research reveals that 68% of Fly Buys customers took a trip last year. Fifty-three per cent travelled domestically and 41% went overseas. We want to cater for all our customers and by offering more airlines and a greater range of travel experiences from hotels and rental cars to package tours we can do that.”

“Travel remains one of the top rewards our customers spend their points on. Our new rewards offer means people can spend their points on travel but also earn points on the trips they take.”

The Fly Buys points can be turned into vouchers of various denominations, acting like a discount off any purchase made, or can be used to pay for the whole package outright.

“We know that 40% of Fly Buys customers prefer to book their overseas travel through a travel agent so developing our existing partnering with helloworld meets this demand.”

“A travel agent’s knowledge can make a real difference when it comes to planning the best holiday abroad.”

Helloworld operates a large number of stores throughout New Zealand, offering Fly Buys customers a wide range of locations to spend their points.

Simon McKearney, CEO of helloworld NZ says, “Having been a partner of Fly Buys for many years as a place to earn points, we are now very excited about having the ability help Fly Buys members spend their points on travel.

“We can’t wait to connect a Fly Buys member to market leading deals in order for them to experience the wonders that travel brings. We are pleased that Loyalty NZ agreed that we were the best travel brand in market to do this.”

The newly expanded Fly Buys travel offering is the latest development for the loyalty programme as it celebrates its 20thbirthday this year. Other new innovations announced during the 20th birthday year include Points + Cash, New World Clubcard and ‘Fly Buys Pumped’ with Z Energy.
