Top Accolade for InterContinental Wellington

Celebration is in the air at Intercontinental Wellington with the announcement that it is the top hotel in New Zealand.

At the 23rd annual World Travel Awards (Asia & Australasia) Gala Ceremony 2016 in Denang, Vietnam yesterday the Wellington five-star luxury hotel was named the country’s Leading Hotel 2016 ahead of other finalists Hilton Auckland, Hilton Queenstown, Pullman Auckland, Rydges Wellington, Skycity Grand Hotel (Auckland) and the Langham Hotel Auckland.

InterContinental Wellington’s Presidential Suite was named New Zealand’s Leading Hotel Suite in last year’s Awards and general manager Scott Hamilton attributes the accolades to the extensive major renovation the property went through in 2013/14 which transformed the 232-room hotel’s Club InterContinental Lounge, the Club InterContinental guest rooms, Chameleon Restaurant, The Lobby Lounge and reception arrival area, introduced a newly defined Deluxe Guest Room category and delivered the six most technologically-advanced conference spaces in Wellington.

“Our guests appreciate memorable experiences and a sense of true luxury – it’s our job to continue excellence so both our business and leisure guests benefit from our global expertise,” Hamilton said. “The awards we have since garnered – which have also included Australasia’s Leading Conference Hotel, Top Concierge in Australia, NZ and South Pacific, and Top Front Office Services Employee – are very humbling as they indicate very high satisfaction from our markets and industry peers.”

Since the major refurbishment, InterContinental Wellington has continued to develop its luxury offering with the opening of Spa InterContinental and the update of the hotel fleet with a stunning new Bentley Flying Spur and the latest 7 Series BMW made to order from Germany for guest transfer use.

The new health and beauty spa offers an array of luxurious treatments featuring the highly specialised French range, Sothys, a brand that is synonymous with excellence and prestige in beauty institutes and spas all over the world and represents extraordinary commitment to research and innovation.

“We have no doubt this additional luxury service offering, which opened to both our guests and day visitors in April this year, has further enhanced our luxury promise.”
