First Living Wage Employer in the Insurance Sector

HealthCarePlus is marking Labour Day this year by celebrating its new status as the first accredited Living Wage Employer in the insurance sector.

“HealthCarePlus is a worker owned insurance cooperative and this important step reflects both our own values, and solidarity with the values of our 25,000 members primarily from the education sector” the Chief Executive of HealthCarePlus John Seed said today.

The application for Living Wage Employer accreditation (www.livingwage.org.nz ) was an initiative by HealthCarePlus staff and their union and reflects the commitment of HealthCarePlus to the Living Wage Movement in New Zealand.

“We are a union-based organisation and very proud of it” Mr Seed said. “We are also very proud to mark Labour Day 2016 with our new status as a Living Wage Accredited employer.” Mr Seed went on to say, “HealthCarePlus would like to encourage others in the financial services sector to obtain Living Wage Accreditation to support the move to improve the conditions of New Zealand’s lowest paid workers.“

HealthCarePlus was established more than 50 years ago to provide excellent and affordable health insurance and services to staff in all teaching institutions, early-childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary.
