Andrew Crisp appointed as LINZ Chief Executive

State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes has today announced the appointment of Andrew Crisp as Chief Executive of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).

“I am very pleased to appoint Andrew Crisp as Chief Executive of LINZ,” Mr Hughes said.

Mr Crisp is currently the Acting Chief Executive of LINZ, a role he has held since July 2016. He is on secondment to LINZ from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment where he is the Deputy Chief Executive Building, Resources and Markets.

The majority of Mr Crisp’s career has been spent in the Public Service with senior roles in the Treasury, Department of Labour and Ministry for the Environment. He has a broad range of experience in leading strategy, policy and regulatory functions, as well as managing operations and corporate services.

“The Public Service is focused on working together better and organising around New Zealanders to deliver outstanding public services,” Mr Hughes said.

“Mr Crisp is a highly regarded and experienced senior Public Servant who has led LINZ very effectively as Acting Chief Executive,” he said.

“He is able to effectively lead strategy, and is skilled at managing complex programmes of work and building relationships,” said Mr Hughes.

“Mr Crisp’s particular skills and broad experience will help LINZ deliver on its priorities and position the agency well into the future.”

Mr Crisp has been appointed for a five year term from 31 October 2016.

LINZ is the government department responsible for providing accurate information about where people and places are, giving people confidence in their property rights and ensuring Crown property is well managed for future generations.

LINZ holds a significant amount of high value geographic information that can be used by businesses, industry and government to make more informed decisions, and has great potential to be used in new and innovative ways. LINZ can help drive greater economic benefits for New Zealand, and support open government, by continuing its work to make this information available to the public.

LINZ is also working to improve the quality and accessibility of geographic information, increase certainty by making property decisions faster, and improve the operational performance of the Overseas Investment Office.

Biography

Mr Crisp has been the Acting Chief Executive of LINZ since July 2016.

He is on secondment to LINZ from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) where he is the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) of Building, Resources and Markets. In this role he oversees the Ministry’s building and housing functions, as well as the energy portfolio, the communications portfolio and the commerce and consumer affairs portfolio.

Mr Crisp began his career in the private sector, at Coopers and Lybrand before joining the public sector. He has held senior roles at the Treasury, the Department of Labour, and the Ministry for the Environment. He has a broad range of experience across a number of policy and regulatory domains, and in operations, strategy and corporate functions.

Mr Crisp holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree from Victoria University of Wellington.
