Chamber congratulates Wellys winners

Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates Dane Coles as Wellingtonian of the Year, and all the category winners from last night’s ‘Wellys’ awards at Te Papa.

“Dane is a great ambassador for our city,” says Chamber Chief Executive John Milford.

“He has helped further put Wellington on the map with his huge success on the rugby field, captaining the Hurricanes team that brought the Super Rugby title to the capital for the first time, and showing what a talent he is on the international stage with the All Blacks, and by being short-listed for International Player of the Year.

“His easy-going character and ability to mix easily with the public are obvious and worthy of applause on their own.”

The Business Person of the Year award was won by Chris Wilkinson, founder of First Retail Group consultancy.

“Chris has done a great job leading his company to provide solutions to others seeking to build business from their operations and marketplaces.”

Mr Milford says it’s great to see recognition for the contributions and efforts of all the category winners to support Wellington business and the wider community.

“The Wellys are a great opportunity to display the city’s success and talent. Every year they recognise the best of our innovation, passion, and achievement.”

Other winners were John Fiso, for Education; Stephanie McIntyre, for Community service; Kerry Prendergast, for Government; Kelvin Hastie, for Environment; Benjamin Bell, for Youth; actor Ray Henwood, for Arts; Nancy Bertler, for Science and Technology.

“Congratulations to them all. They help make Wellington a great place.”
