Job advertisements continued to grow in October

The number of online job advertisements grew by 1.1 per cent in October 2016 and by 12.9 per cent over the year to October, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Jobs Online report.

Job advertisements rose in seven out of eight industry groups over the month, with the biggest increases in healthcare and medical (up 1.7 per cent) and construction and engineering (up 1.2 per cent).

MBIE’s Labour Market Trends Manager David Paterson says the occupation groups with the largest monthly increases were machinery operators and drivers (up 2.2 per cent), sales (up 1.9 per cent), and labourers (up 1.7 per cent). Job advertisements rose in most skill levels, with the biggest increases for unskilled jobs (up 2.1 per cent) followed by low skilled and skilled jobs (both up 1.5 per cent).

“The construction industry is showing an improvement again, with the number vacancies growing steadily,” says Mr Paterson.
