Chariot launches iOS version of the app

MEDIA RELEASE 1/12/2016

Ride-sharing app making it easier for Kiwis to get around

New Zealand’s innovative carpooling and ride-sharing app Chariot is now set to connect more Kiwis going in the same direction with the release of its Apple version of the app.

From today, people can now download Chariot on their Apple devices and quickly and easily connect with commuters who are in the local area and set up a ride to where they need to go.

Chariot launched in BETA for Android devices in Auckland and Wellington earlier this year. The App offers an alternative to public transport that is convenient and safe for commuters and contributes to the reduction of the worsening congestion and carbon emissions.

Chariot’s founder Thomas Kiefer says he is excited to be launching the BETA iOS version of the service.

“We can now capture a broader group of commuters and make it easy for more Kiwis to get around, and encourage more cars off our increasingly congested roads,” he says.

This year, Chariot was a finalist in the Community Innovation Category for the Sustainability Network Awards. Chariot’s founder Thomas Kiefer was nominated for Innovator of the Year in the New Zealander of the Year awards for his work building Chariot.

“We’re delighted to be a part of these awards and to be recognised for our efforts and hard work we put in to make our contribution to make New Zealand a better place to live, work and travel,” he says.

Chariot users can be a passenger or a driver and share the cost of the journey. For roughly the price of a bus fare, people who use Chariot can get a ride from, or give a ride to someone going in the same direction.

The start-up has also developed Chariot Corporate to make it even easier for New Zealand business to set up a car-pooling system.

“If a business experiences infrastructure stress such as a car-parking issue or wants to improve company culture, then incentivising staff to use a car-pooling system such as Chariot Corporate is the way to go,” says Kiefer.

Chariot Corporate assesses an individual’s company’s needs, employee travel patterns and helps improve commuting outcomes for staff and the business.
