Alistair Forster named as Beef & Lamb NZ Ambassador Chef

Media release Mahana Estates’ Alistair Forster named as 2017 Beef and Lamb New Zealand Ambassador Chef

Mahana Estates’ Executive Chef Alistair Forster has been named as one of five 2017 Beef and Lamb New Zealand Ambassador Chefs.

Beef and Lamb New Zealand Ambassador Chefs are selected because they have been judged to be at the pinnacle of beef and lamb cookery.

“We are thrilled for Alistair that he has been recognised in this way,” said Mahana Estates Operations Manager Clare Davies. “We are very aware of Alistair’s skill and talent as a chef and it’s very exciting that, as a result of this accolade, more people will be encouraged to come to Mahana Estates and enjoy his wonderful cooking.”

“We are delighted to have Alistair join our team as an Ambassador Chef for 2017,” says Lisa Moloney, Foodservice Manager of Beef and Lamb New Zealand. “His beef and lamb dishes stood out for their well-considered combination of flavours and textures and each component was executed to a very high standard.”

Beef and Lamb Ambassador Chefs are involved in a range of events throughout their ambassadorship, including industry events and cooking demonstrations and they are given the opportunity to host an Ambassador Series dinner in their own restaurant to highlight their talent with New Zealand beef and lamb.

Alistair was trained in AA rosetted and Michelin-starred kitchens in the UK under chefs such as Rick Stein and John Campbell and gained great experience and recognition within the UK hospitality industry before moving to New Zealand in 2009.

Alistair’s approach to food is simple. “I love to source fresh, local and seasonal produce, treat it with respect, and then apply skill and creativity to deliver an outstanding culinary experience to guests at Mahana Estates,” says Alistair. “Our cooking is not overly technical or tricky. It’s robust and direct, allowing the pure flavours of the ingredients to sing.”

Mahana Estates is open for evening dining Thursday to Saturday, for lunch seven days a week, and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
